The temperatures may have dropped on Friday night, however the blistering sets from Soundgarden and My Chemical Romance did a fantastic job of keeping us warmed up and blazing the path into day two of Voodoo Experience in New Orleans City Park.
Saturday’s line-up was the one I was most excited to see and we were able to arrive to the festival ground early to catch sets from The Treme Brass Band, The Soul Rebels Brass Band, Ozomatli, and City and Colour, as well as, main stages acts Boots Electric, Mastodon, Social Distortion, Snoop Dogg, Girl Talk, and Blink 182 later in the evening.
We could not ask for a better way to wake up than to the sounds of The Treme Brass Band and the raw energy that goes into a set from The Soul Rebels Brass Band, both definitely had our feet tapping and waist shaking despite playing early on in the day. Despite loving every moment of the two brass bands my highlight performance of the day has to go to Ozomatli, whose blend of hip-hop, funk, and everything else captured us from start to finish. We just could not tear our eyes away from this band, pity they only played for an hour, as I feel we could have watched them all day long.
After Ozomatli came a rocking set from Mastodon, one of the few metal/hard rock bands on this year’s line-up, who I have to say certainly held their own, drawing in a fairly good size crowd to the main stage. The evening closed out with sets from Social Distortion, whose singer Mike Ness seemed a bit irritated that multiple bands were playing various festival stages all at the same time, Snoop Dogg, and Blink 182. Snoop drew a huge crowd to the main stage, most of whom stayed to finish out the evening rocking out with Blink 182.
