2012 MTV VMA Nominations Announced!

Today marks the last day of July. August is rapidly approaching, which means that MTV has officially announced their nominations for the 2012 Video Music Awards, or VMA‘s!

Rihanna and Drake who collaborated for Drake’s hit, ‘Take Care,” are bound to cross paths at this year’s award show. Both artists lead the field with 5 nominations each. In fact, Rihanna has two chances to take home the night’s biggest prize, as she’s up for Video of the Year for her solo hit “We Found Love” and her duet with Drake on the aforementioned “Take Care.”

Last year’s big winner, Katy Perry is not too far behind Drake and Rihanna, she managed to snag 4 nominations. They include Video of the Year, (Wide Awake) and Best Female Video (Part of Me).

Voting for all VMA categories will end on August 24 at 6 p.m. ET, except for Best New Artist. Voting for that category will run through the awards show, which is on September 6. Best New Artist is probably going to be the most voted upon category, as many big hits are here, including, Carly Rae Jepsen, Fun., Frank Ocean, and, of course, One Direction. It seems likely that their fan club, The One Directioners, will run away with that category.

This year’s show will air live on September 6 at 8 p.m. EST from the Staples Center in Los Angeles and feature performances from four-time VMA veteran Alicia Keys and VMA first-timers One Direction.

Linkin Park Honda Civic Tour Sweepstakes

The 2012 Honda Civic Tour (HCT) is giving music fans a chance to win a Linkin Park customized and autographed Honda Si Coupe and CBR250R motorcycle plus an exclusive fly-away trip to Los Angeles that includes signed instruments and a visit to a Linkin Park music video shoot.

Beginning today, July 12, 2012, fans can enter to win by visiting Attendees can also register to win the vehicles at each stop of the tour where the customized vehicles will be on display.  The Honda Civic Tour kicks off August 11 in Bristow, VA, featuring Linkin Park, Incubus and opening act Mutemath.

The members of Linkin Park collaborated on their personalized Honda Civic Si Coupe and CBR250R motorcycle. Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda says, “The idea for the customization on the car was to take something based on the artwork from our new album, Living Things. The 3-D figure you see on the album cover is actually a scan of Chester’s head breaking apart and fracturing, with fire underneath. We took those visual cues, and tweaked it to look cool on the Civic Si.”

Adds Chester Bennington, “This was some of the most complicated artwork they’ve ever done for a car on this tour, and I’m grateful that Honda let us put this much time and energy into making it look so awesome. I really hope that whoever wins it appreciates the quality of the artwork that’s on it as much as we do!”

The Civic Si is bolstered by the exclusive Honda Factory Performance aero body kit, featuring front, side and rear underbody spoilers. The CBR250R motorcycle design was also based on the Living Things album artwork. “The car and motorcycle have a similar look,” says Shinoda. “The motorcycle makes me want to ride motorcycles. It kind of has a superhero look.” The stylized Linkin Park logo appears subtly on the side panels just behind the motorcycle’s front wheel; the Honda Civic Tour insignia can be seen below the windshield, and signatures of the band are on the gas tank.

In addition to a chance to win the customized vehicles, fans may also enter the Linkin Park Civic Tour Fly-Away Sweepstakes, presented by Honda Financial Services, at, beginning July 12, 2012, at 7:00am PT / 10:00am ET and ending November 30, 2012, at 8:59p.m. PT / 11:59p.m. ET.

The Grand Prize includes: round trip airfare for two to Los Angeles from anywhere in the continental U.S.; deluxe hotel accommodations for two nights, ground transportation; all taxes related to accommodations and air transportation; a visit to Linkin Park’s music video shoot and meeting with members of the band; one autographed guitar and practice amp signed by members of the band; one five piece starter drum kit signed by members of the band; shipping of musical instruments to winner’s residence; local Los Angeles Sightseeing tour and dinner for two in Hollywood, CA.

The Grand Prize will be awarded before December 31, 2013, and is worth over $5,000.00. Ten first prize winners will each receive an autographed limited-edition Incubus screen printed poster.

Linkin Park DJ and programmer, Joe Hahn, was tapped by the Honda Civic Tour to direct the commercial spot for the 2012 tour.  Hahn, an accomplished director, has guided almost all of the Linkin Park iconic music videos including ”Numb,” “New Divide,” and “Waiting for the End,” and is gearing up to direct his first feature film, Mall. The spot was filmed during the video shoot for “Burn It Down” the debut single from Linkin Park’s new album, Living Things.

Vans Warped Tour 2012 Recap

(PCM) When the Vans Warped Tour 20

12 came to Camden, New Jersey on Friday, July 20, we expected another great day of music and another hot, hot Warped. We were half right.

While this year’s Warped has one of the best line-ups the tour has seen in years with bands like Taking Back Sunday, New Found Glory, All Time Low, Yellowcard, Falling in Reverse and plenty others, we were pleasantly surprised to find the blistering sun and 95+ degree weather had stayed at home this year and instead we were treated to a rainy 70-degree day. But that was only the set-up for an amazing day.

This year, there were plenty of first-time-on-Warped bands and many of them are relatively new on the scene which certainly brought a great energy and vivacity to the day, but it was clear that the veteran bands were the real presence on the tour.

Whether it was a band like Yellowcard, celebrating their 10th anniversary since they first played Warped Tour, or a band like Breathe Carolina, who after 3 Warped Tours in 4 years had finally made it to main stage, the musicians with Warped experience and years in the band under their belts, made for the best sets of the day.

As is true of any Warped, whether it’s trying to find the blow-up schedule, catch a set on time or line-up for a signing, things can get hectic, sidetracked and unexpected. With that being said, we think we managed to get a good sample of everything the tour had to offer this year.

We definitely took stock in the veterans on the tour checking out sets from bands like New Found Glory, Yellowcard, All Time Low, We the Kings and Breathe Carolina. All of them proved exactly why they keep being invited back to the tour and why some of them have been around for years and years on end!

While it may sound crazy (and make us feel really old) to realize we’ve been listening to the brilliance of New Found Glory and Yellowcard for over a decade, it only served to make their sets stand out as the highlights of the day.

Yellowcard had some of the biggest sing-a-longs of the day with their mega-hits like “Way Away” and “Ocean Avenue,” but were great at mixing in the songs you’d only know if you picked up an album or two of theirs, as well. With all members dressed in black, they brought a dose of rock to Warped Tour that showed exactly why the band and their music has stood the test of time. With a new album on the horizon, we can’t wait to catch them back on the road.

Likewise, New Found Glory provided us with an unforgettable set that showed their longevity as well. Between their stage antics, choice of wardrobe and incredible set list that even included a cover song, they would certainly be up for a “best set of the day” category. Everyone was jumping and chanting along with “My Friends Over You,” but everyone knows more NFG than that – and we saw that on full display here. People were bursting with excitement every time the opening chords of any song struck up.

It should also be noted New Found Glory claims the title of “coolest merch tent.” Not only did they have a ton of great shirts to choose from, but they had a second half of the tent decorated with carnival fare and dedicated solely to NFG carnival games. Perhaps we’ll see that idea take off even more next year at Warped? We support it!

We also support All Time Low’s many, many years on the tour. They’ve come to epitomize the Warped fan, band and genre and that’s likely a major part of the reason why they had one of the biggest turnouts of the day. Incorporating their new single alongside some tried and true favorites and their usual snappy banter, we were treated to a great set and left with a taste for more! Those teases.

We the Kings and Breathe Carolina, two bands who are always ready and willing to thank their fans and get the party going, also delivered on the energy scale and had people bouncing along whether they knew the words or not.

Unfortunately we couldn’t make it to the Taking Back Sunday or Bayside sets, but we hear they kept the crowds rowdy and excited the entire time.

Speaking of rowdy, we also finally got to check out the hype behind Blood on the Dance Floor when we caught some of their set. We can’t exactly say what we expected to find, but the reality was far more interesting than our wildest dreams.

And the good news just keeps coming. We got to catch a few songs from the Miss May I set, too, and, man, can they make the fans go crazy! Whether they were one of your favorite bands or not, it was clear from the first moments of their set that the audience was captivated, the band excited and the atmosphere electric.

A few other stand-out sets of the day came from rockers Falling In Reverse and catch pop-rocker Matt Toka, who each took the crowd by storm and are names we can certainly be on the look-out to hear from in the music world.

But even amidst the amazing line-up the main stages had to offer this year, we still got to check out some of the smaller bands, even discovering some new ones… and isn’t that one of the best parts of Warped?

The two standouts in that category are bands by the name of Skinny Lister and Make Do and Mend. Skinny Lister is a band with a fresh sound when it comes to Warped. When they took to the stage, we were transported and completely engrossed in the sounds, antics and all around showmanship of the set. Make Do and Mend also had us intrigued. The members look like they could have come from all different music genres and yet together they make a wonderful, perfectly gelled sound that resulted in a performance that had us seeking out their merch tent.

While we couldn’t catch their set, we also discovered a newfound love for an all-girl band called Cherri Bomb who are the youngest girl band to ever be a part of the tour and perhaps one of the most talented bands on the tour, too. No, seriously, they are that phenomenal!

Suffice to say, it was an incredible day for fans of music and I imagine that includes the newer bands on Warped who got to share a tour with beloved bands they grew up listening to just like all of us!

We’ve already got our fingers crossed that next year’s Warped Tour will rival the line-up and our experience this year. Until then… see you at the show!
