Paul McCartney Plays for a Pound

(PCM)Music legend Paul McCartney agreed to perform during the opening ceremony of the London Olympics and was only paid one pound ($1.57) for the gig! The generous rocker, along with other artists that played during the opening cermony including Mike Oldfield and Dizzee Rascal, also received the nominal payment according to Olympic organizers.

The majority of the performers that took part in Friday night’s ceremony donated their time to participate in the historical occasion. “Isles of Wonder,” the opening ceremony directed by Danny Boyle, featured a massive extravaganza that showcased music from British icons across the ages.

In other opening ceremony news, the alleged UFO that many attendees claimed to have seen was not an alien aircraft at all, but a Goodyear blimp...

Yellowcard Premieres New Single and Announces US Tour!

(PCM) Since returning from their hiatus in 2010, Yellowcard has proved that they are back with new energy, better material than ever before and a continued passion for the music they love. The streak continues for the band with their upcoming release, Southern Air, due out August 14, 2012.

They put out a lyric video for the song “Always Summer,” but now we’re getting a bigger preview of what to expect from their eighth studio album with the premiere of their first official single off the record, “Here I Am Alive,” via MTV’s Buzzworthy.

Their last album, When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes, released in 2011, makes my list of Top 10 Favorite Albums of All Time and after streaming “Here I Am Alive” on a near endless loop, it’s clear that the song captures that album’s ingenuity and sincerity and only continues to develop it. Seriously, if this is any indication of the rest of the album, we are all in for a huge treat mid-August.

“Here I Am Alive” sends out a great message and indication of the positive place the band has found themselves in. It was co-written with Patrick Stump and features guest vocals from We Are the In Crowd’s Tay Jardine. Check it out below:

Get More: Yellowcard, MTV Shows

But the good news doesn’t stop coming! Isn’t it great when you get to see a song performed live with the featured artist joining the main? Well, we may get to see WATIC’s Jardine sing the already-classic single live with Yellowcard sooner than we think considering they’ll be touring together this Fall!

Yes, Yellowcard knows how to ramp up excitement before an album release. They have released their Fall 2012 US Tour Dates, which kick off November 2nd in Las Vegas and circles the country before wrapping up in San Diego in early December. The Wonder Years and We Are the In Crowd will join them for the tour (dates below).

Judging on the past couple of tours in support of WYTTSY, we imagine we are going to be enjoying quite a few live renditions of our soon-to-be-favorite songs off Southern Air at these upcoming shows. Color us ecstatic!

Southern Air will be released via Hopeless Records on August 14, 2012 and features guest vocals from Jardine, All Time Low’s Alex Gaskarth and Hey Monday’s Cassadee Pope. Just two short weeks away!

Want more Yellowcard before then? Check out our recent interview with guitarist Ryan Mendez out at Warped Tour!

Tom Waits creates Tour Speculation

Today, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, and legendary crooner Tom Waits posted this rather interesting picture of himself on his website. The picture features the singer in a pirate attaire chomping down on a cigar. it is tied together with the simple words: coming August 7th.
The blog post was entitled “Permission to Come Aboard?”

Since then, the web has been abuzz about the possibilities of Waits returning to the road to tour. It makes sense, as Tom’s First Studio Album in quite sometime, “Bad As Me” was released last October. Tom Has not had a proper tour since 2008′s “Glitter and Doom Tour“. Although it makes sense that on August 7th Waits will in fact announce a tour, it reamins just speculation at this time...

The All-American Rejects and Boys Like Girls Co-Headline a US Fall Tour!

(PCM) There is not much that can compare to seeing one of your favorite bands announce a new tour coming through your town. But how about when two of your favorite bands announce they’ll be co-headlining a tour together? Oh, that’s a good feeling. Get ready to feel pretty darn good:

The All-American Rejects and Boys Like Girls are taking to the road together this September for a seven week tour that goes coast-to-coast! The tour will also include The Ready Set and Parachute on certain dates.

While The Rejects have been touring quite frequently this year in support of their phenomenal fourth studio album Kids in the Street released in March, this will be the first time to catch Boys Like Girls back on the road in some time. The band is set to release their third studio album Crazy World this Fall and just released the Crazy World EP in mid-July, so this is certainly just the beginning of the return of BLG and fans will definitely be treated to a preview of the new material on the tour.

Considering both The Rejects and BLG serve as a reminder that rock music is alive and well, we couldn’t be happier to hear that these bands are co-headlining a tour together. With huge, sing-a-long radio hits alongside incredible full albums, both bands have had the chance to step away from LA and New York and remind themselves what music they love and love to make with their latest releases. That undoubtedly means we are all in for a show to remember when the tour comes to town.

But we’re not the only ones excited for this tour!

“We’re beyond stoked to be touring the US again this fall,” Rejects guitarist Nick Wheeler said. “It’ll be great being out with Boys Like Girls.  We haven’t toured with those dudes since 2006, so it should be a fun and memorable reunion for everyone!”

BLG front man Martin Johnson echoed these sentiments, as well. “I’ve always been a big fan of The All-American Rejects and couldn’t be more delighted to be sharing the stage with them this fall. I think it’s going be a great time for both the fans and bands alike. Looking forward to a really great couple of months.”

To quote a Boys Like Girls song here, in the case of this tour, I’m thinking two is better than one.

Get your tickets now and we’ll see you at the show! Check out the full listing of tour dates below and keep in mind, additional dates are to be announced!
