Stone Sour, Papa Roach, And Otherwise Exclusive Interviews And Concert Review!

(PCM) Stone Sour, Papa Roach, and Otherwise recently kicked-off their current co-headlining tour at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center, in Bethlehem, PA and PCM was in attendance to witness this powerhouse touring package first hand!

Show openers Otherwise put on an amazing performance and did a fantastic job of amping up the crowd and setting the bar high for the rest of the evenings performances. Otherwise are currently still touring behind the release of the incredible debut album “True Love Never Dies” and judging by the amount of people that were in attendance to watch Otherwise’s opening set, 2013 is poised to be a huge year for this band. Quite a few times I was able to look around see audience members belting out the lyrics to Otherwise tracks such as “I Don’t Apologize (1000 Pictures)” and their set closer “Soldiers”.  I had a chance to sit down with both Adrian and Ryan Patrick of Otherwise before their performance, full interview can be seen below:

When Papa Roach took the stage the crowd went absolutely wild!  The band opened their killer set with new song “Still Swinging” and honestly for as many times as I have had the opportunity to catch Papa Roach in the live setting, they never fail to impress. For a band that has been together for over thirteen years they have showed absolutely now signs of slowing down and only seem to continually improve over time.

The band are currently touring behind the recently released eight studio album “The Connection” and did a fantastic job of mixing up their set with current singles such as “Where Did The Angels Go” alongside fan favorites such as “Broken Home”, “Scars”, and “To Be Loved”. The band closed out their set with their well-loved “Last Resort”, wrapping up an incredibly energetic and well-executed performance.

We had a chance to speak with Papa Roach vocalist Jacoby Shaddix via phone just after the killer Bethlehem show, listen to the full interview below:

Finally, it came time for Stone Sour to grace the stage. The band are currently touring behind their recently released new album “The House Of Gold & Bones Pt.1″ . Opening their set with two songs off the new album “Go Sovereign” and “Absolute Zero”, Stone Sour fronted by the iconic Corey Taylor whipped the crowd into a frenzy and left us with one truly memorable performance.

What I love so much about Stone Sour is their ability to mix-up their set and find the perfect balance between face melting hard rock anthems and melodic acoustic ballads. Armed with only his acoustic guitar, Taylor had the audience hanging on his every word performing songs such as “Bother” and “Through The Glass” before once again stirring up the pit with “Hell & Consequences”, “RU486″, and “Say You” Haunt Me”. Stone Sour closed out their set with my personal favorite “30/30-150″ and all in all it was a truly fantastic performance.

We had a chance to catch up with Stone Sour drummer Roy Mayorga just prior to the band’s electrifying performance, you can view our full interview below:

Concert Review: The Darkness At Ram's Head Live In Baltimore, MD!

Dropkick (18 of 67)

(PCM) The Darkness recently brought their Let Them Eat Cakes Tour to Ram’s Head Live in Baltimore, MD and the British rockers who are currently on the road in support of their newest release “Hot Cakes” definitely know how to throw a party. Personally, I am thrilled to see The Darkness back, looking and sounding as refreshed as ever.

Dropkick (2 of 67)

The band exploded onto the stage with flourish and flair, playing a solid mix of fan favorites and new material off the “Hot Cakes ” album which was certainly very pleasing for both old fans and new. Singer Justin Hawkins stage antics are both hilarious and mesmerizing and paired with the spot on musicianship from guitarist Dan Hawkins, bassist Frankie Poullain, and drummer Ed Graham it is nearly impossible to take your eyes away from the stage.  The Darkness surely know how to put on an unforgettable performance. It is wonderful to see a band that does not have to rely on a ton of pyrotechnics, elaborate stage props, etc to put on a fantastic show.

Dropkick (59 of 67)

We had a chance to catch up with guitarist Dan Hawkins prior to the show, you can watch the full interview below:

The Darkness exploded onto the scene with their classic-sounding brand of British hard rock. Their debut album, Permission To Land, shot straight to #1 on the UK Albums Chart and has since been certified 5x platinum. In the US, the record hit #36 on the Billboard Top 200. In addition to their heavy touring schedule, the band briefly supported Metallica on their Summer Sanitarium Tour in 2003. In 2004, the band won three BRIT Awards for Best Group, Best Rock Group, and Best Album. They also nabbed two Kerrang! Awards for Best Live Act and Best British Band.

Dropkick (15 of 67)

In 2005, The Darkness released their sophomore effort, One Way Ticket To Hell…And Back. The album debuted at #11 on the UK Albums Chart and eventually went platinum, spawning two Top 10 UK Singles. After their world tour that took them to Europe, Scandinavia, Japan, and Australia. The success of the band was short-lived, however. In 2006, frontman Justin Hawkins was admitted to a rehabilitation facility for addiction. The group disbanded almost immediately after.
Dropkick (27 of 67)
The Darkness reunited in 2011, and released their first new single in 7 years in February 2012. Later that year in May, The Darkness played Sweden Rock Festival (Sweden) and Rock On The Range (United States), with more touring in between. In August 2012, they released their much-anticipated and long-awaited third album, Hot Cakes. The album hit #4 on the UK Albums Chart, #1 on the UK Rock Chart, #2 on the Billboard Hard Rock Chart, and #43 on the Billboard Top 200. The Darkness are on tour now in North America, with a European run and a second U.S. run planned for the imminent future.

Exclusive Interview With Continents! Band Premieres New Video For "Idle Hands"

(PCM) South Wales hardcore quintet CONTINENTS have debuted a dark, intense music video for the title track from their forthcoming album Idle Hands, out January 22ndWatch “Idle Hands” exclusively through VEVO.

Vocalist Phil Cross took a few minutes to answers some questions for PCM’s Kristyn Clarke, check out the interview below:

Q: I am sure you are busy gearing up for the upcoming release of “Idle Hands” on 1/22. What should fans be expecting? Any big plans for release day?

Phil Cross: We have written our heaviest material to date. It’s got a bit of everything in it, still has the hooks as like Trials did but also has a bit of a raw hardcore sound in parts, while still keeping the metalcore approach. If you’re into The Ghost Inside, While She Sleeps, Architects, and Emmure you can get the idea of what to expect. When it’s released we will probably go out and get drunk to celebrate its release.

Q: What was the most challenging part of the recording process for “Idle Hands”?

Phil Cross: For myself, I would say the vocals, as we had to do the album in 3 weeks. I wanted to put everything I had into the album, having never actually recorded a full length before tested me big time; there were times where I thought I wasn’t going to finish it. Literally I would get up go into the booth sometimes spend 6+ hours straight until I was happy with what I came out with. And always coming up with new ideas at the same time.

Q: Who brings what to the table creatively? What are some of your biggest artistic inspirations?

Phil Cross: I would have to say Darryl is probably the main writer in the band, riff wise he’s very creative, and he was also a drummer in his old band so he knows what he’s looking for. He then brings us in as he can get carried away and has the tendency to think way, WAY outside of the box, so we have to calm him down haha. I write all the lyrics and I’ll always call in friends to see what they think, I like to get outsiders opinion on things. I’m into bands like The Movielife, The Hope Conspiracy, a lot of hardcore like Knuckledust, Sick of it All and some old school pop punk. I’ll listen to anything, not just metal or punk. I’m very open which I think is very important as a musician.

Q: Do you have any touring plans for 2013?

Phil Cross: We have a few UK tours coming up and are going back to Europe all in the next 3 months. We’ve got stuff in the works for some other places just waiting for them to all be confirmed.

Q: Do you have a dream artist that you would love to share a stage with one day? If you could create your own dream festival, what would the line-up look like?

Phil Cross: I would love to play with Slipknot one day that would be intense. Touring with Parkway Drive or Bring Me the Horizon would be cool. Slipknot, Parkway Drive, Lamb of God, Comeback Kid, The Ghost Inside, Sick of It All, Emmure, Machine Head, Strife, Newfound Glory , Stray From The Path, A Day To Remember, TRC, The Movielife, The Hope Conspiracy, a dance tent for myself and the Old school Drive Thru records stage! Haha that would be amazing.

Q: How will “Idle Hands” differ from your previous albums? Did you try anything experimental in the studio?

Phil Cross: This is our first album so everything was new but we did get the chance to try some stuff we thought we never could, like the big singalong ending on “Land of the Free”. Our producer was very laid back so if we wanted to mess round in the evening trying stuff we could. I worked a lot more on my pronunciation of words also this time while recording.

Q: What has been one of your most memorable moments as a band?

Phil Cross: Probably playing Ghostfest! It was always a dream of mine to play that festival, so when we get the message that we were asked to play it with no agency or anything, we were really stoked. Signing with Victory Records two weeks before Ghostfest came out of the blue for us in the best way. The signing got us recognition, and the stage we played at Ghostfest was so packed that people couldn’t get in, and once you were in you couldn’t get out, it was crazy.

Q: How do you feel about the uprise of social media as a tool for artist promotion? What is the best way for us to keep up to date with the band?

Phil Cross: Social media plays a big part with the music industry. It’s all well and good playing shows, but if you can’t afford to get over the other side of the world or can’t afford to tour even your own country, how else can bands get their name out there to places they have not been before? It’s a tough industry. You can keep up to date with us via the Victory Records site or

Q: Being that we are a pop-culture based web site and engrossed in all things pop-culture, is there anything in particular you guys can’t get enough of these days? (TV, music, etc)

Phil Cross: We are all huge fans of “The Inbetweeners” it’s hilarious. I’m into “The Misfits”, which is about a small town that suffered a huge lightening storm and now everyone has all these powers. It’s funny in parts but can be dark in other parts, its way too good.

Q: What are your main goals for 2013?

Phil Cross: We just want to tour as much as possible and get the album out there. Hopefully we’ll jump on to some decent festivals during summer. We just hope people enjoy what we have written and buy the album. Pre order IDLE HANDS now over at Victory Records and check out all of our newest merch designs. Come see us when we come play in your hometown!

With a loyal fan base in tow, CONTINENTS will take to the streets beginning February 21st in Cardiff, UK for a four city run to celebrate their new release. They will play their album from front to back, showing off their impressively catchy riffs, monstrous breakdowns and infectious melodies. See a full listing of tour dates here.

Their forthcoming album Idle Hands will release on January 22nd and is available for pre-order through the Victory Records’ webstore. "Notes From The Underground" Album Review And Exclusive Interview With Johnny 3 Tears Of Hollywood Undead!

(PCM) A&M/Octone recording artists Hollywood Undead will return to the road early next year in support of their new album Notes From The Underground. The band will be returning to the underground to play small clubs for their die-hard fans on ‘The Underground Tour’ commencing in Los Angeles on release day – January 8th 2013. Tickets for all shows will go on sale this week. For special VIP packages and more information visit

I have recently had a chance to check out Notes From The Underground and from the opening track “Dead Bite” I was hooked!  Hollywood Undead just get better and better with each release. Notes From The Underground showcases a new found maturity within the band’s music and proves without a doubt that they are definitely not afraid of a little experimentation with their sound. Personally, I was thrilled to hear a few more metal-geared tracks such as “From The Ground” and the extremely well-crafted tracks “Lion” and “Believe” which would be Hollywood Undead’s version of a ballad, showcasing a bit more of the band’s softer side and showing definitely depth and maturity within their lyrical content.

“Another Way Out” is pure pop brilliance with it’s catch eighties tinged melody and perhaps my very favorite track on the album would have to be “Outside” with it’s acoustic intro that works beautifully and showcases so much of the band’s dynamic as musicians.

We recently had a chance to catch up with Johnny 3Tears of Hollywood Undead to talk about the news album, upcoming touring plans, the uprise of social media, and why he can’t stand the label of rap-rock…listen to our full chat below:

Concert Review: R5, Namesake and Taylor Matthews In Philadelphia, PA

(PCM) After spending many of my nights photographing and reviewing metal bands I was excited when the opportunity came about to attend and photograph a concert with R5, Namesake and Taylor Matthews. I showed up early to the venue and found about a hundred and fifty young girls out in the cold waiting to be let in to the Theater of the Living Arts, and I could already tell just the kind of effect that groups such as R5, Namesake, and Taylor Matthews have on their audience.

The first thing that caught my eye was that this was definitely going to be a show for a younger audience, and it is great to be able to gain that perspective from time to time. While waiting for doors I watched many people come to the ticket window to request meet and greet VIP tickets, which were unfortunately they were sold out. However, right there I could tell R5 was a very popular band. Most of the popularity is directed at Ross Lynch who stars in the Disney Channel TV show “Austin and Ally”.

First to the stage, came Taylor Mathews. Along with his band he played for about 25 minutes. Taylor Mathews style leaned more towards rock and roll with a little country thrown in for good measure. Armed with an acoustic guitar his music was crisp, and his singing was very enjoyable. His band was comprised of some good musicians as well which made for a pretty tight package. I look forward to seeing him again on a more adult themed tour in the future.

Up next came Namesake. The bands set consisted of songs from their debut album “Borders & Fences” on Imagine records. Playing a style which had mixes of pop, rock and metal Namesake played for about 35 minutes and seemed to fit well with the fans attending. Where Taylor Mathews seemed more “adult” for this line up Namesake fell right into place with teen fans attending. The highlight of their set came when they covered the Taylor Swift hit “We’re Never Getting Back Together”. Nothing like hearing 500 young girls singing a song they all know the lyrics too.

Last up came headliners R5, which is made up of Ross Lynch along with brothers Rocky (guitar), Riker (bass) and sister Rydel (keyboards) along with family friend Ellington Ratliff on drums. The popularity of this band was not surprising being its members have a strong connection not only to Disney Channel, but with the Fox TV musical series Glee as Riker Lynch has had a reoccurring role the last few seasons. Opening with “Crazy 4 U”, and encoring with their single “Say You’ll Stay”. R5 ran through a pretty tight set which included 14 songs. In penning an honest review I have to say I was not looking forward to staying the entire set. But to allow fairness and a complete review I did stay and I am honestly happy I did. There is always something cool about young kids living their dream on stage. What I saw was just that… a musical family of talented teens who really seem to love their place on stage. Great fan interaction, great band interaction, decent lights and a sound that kept everyone well entertained for well over an hour these California kids really have something special going on. I hope they don’t get lost in the fad of TV- bred boy bands because there is something fun and creative here that I would hate to see disappear!
