(PCM) So this time it’s not rock, it’s not metal, it’s not Pop or even Rap. It’s Lindsey Stirling. First question would be who is Lindsey Stirling? And why is she selling out every show on her tour including tonight’s performance at The Trocadero Theater in Philadelphia. For those not in the know, Lindsey is most known for her appearance on the fifth season of “America’s Got Talent”. With classical music training from Brigham Young University and an appreciation for all things music Lindsey is here to take on the world and with this string of sold out shows she is making it easy.
Out on the road with her is “The Vibrant Sound”. With their mix of jazzy hip-hop and smooth tones I was impressed with this group’s ability to bring me to my “happy place”. Not many artists can do this for me. I would like to describe their sound as being in Southern California with the warm sun shining on your face. Maybe it is the cold weather here that is conjuring up that connection but it was how I felt at the time. With drum backing from their Mac laptop these two artists played through their 30 minute set with highlights coming from their rendition of Gold Digger. A really great act well worth checking out next time they play near you.
After a short break came what everyone was waiting for. My first impressions came from the simple but well designed stage and light set up. Laser lights and a backing video board were some of the indications that tonight was going to be fun. After the ten minute changeover Lindsey took the stage to a sold out audience. Lindsey performed an hour of music off her self titled debut album “Lindsey Stirling”. With songs like “Elements”, “Spontaneous Me” and her Michael Jackson medley Lindsey gave the crowd what they came for as most looked in amazement as Lindsey danced her way across the stage like blossoming flower. With elements of modern dance, ballet and the ability to amaze with her violin playing, I was really impressed. As expected the video board animations and choreographed light beams brought her show to life. Closing with her “YouTube” hit “Crystallize” I found out why Lindsey continues to sell out every show.
