(PCM) We are deeply saddened to report that R&B singer Percy Sledge has passed away at the age of 73 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Sledge is most well-known for his Number One hit single “When A Man Loves A Woman” which rose to the top of the charts in 1966. It was later covered by singer Michael Bolton in 1991 and once again hit Number One on the charts.
Sledge continued his recording career throughout the mid-90’s and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame back in 2005. Sledges’ early career was a hospital nurse in the early 60s and he achieved his best success in the mid to late 60s and early 70s with a series of emotional soul songs.
Sledge’s immediate cause of death remains unknown at this time!
