Drake Awarded MVP of the Year at the 2015 BET Awards

Drake(PCM) The 2015 BET Awards aired on Tuesday, October 14, crowning the year’s best in Hip-Hop, Rap, and R&B, and surprise, surprise, Drake was awarded as BET’s MVP of the year.

Kendrick Lamar and Big Sean also won big at the 2015 BET Awards, taking home three awards each. Lamar won the award for Best Hip-Hop Video, Lyricist of the Year, and Best Impact Track for “Alright” while Big Sean took home the awards for Best Club Banger for “IDFWU” as well as the Best Collabo and People’s Champ Award for “Blessings” featuring Kanye West and Drake.

But it’s Drake who was named as the MVP of 2015, which should come as no surprise after the stellar year the rapper has had. Drake was the first artist of 2015 to go Platinum after the surprise release of his mixtape “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late,” which sold over 1 million copies as of August, 2015 and became the rapper’s fourth platinum album.

The Canadian rapper was also the undisputed winner of his spat with Philly’s Meek Mill. After Meek took to twitter and accused Drake of using a ghostwriter, the rappers engaged in a diss track-off, which Drake unanimously won with the release of “Back to Back.”

To top it all off, Drake and Future released a joint-mixtape, What A Time to be Alive, that debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, Billboard R&B Charts, and Billboard Hot Rap Songs, making Drake the first rapper to get two number 1’s in one year in 11 years.
